Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to describe the syntactic structures and devices used to mark topic and focus in Mbuko discourse. Playing a large role in this is the marker nà, glossed as Top, which is used in marking both topic and focus. Mbuko is a chadic language, classified as Afro-asiatic, Chadic, Biu-mandara A5. It is spoken in the Far North Province of Cameroon, Diamare division, Meri subdivision.
