Description:
This paper describes the orthography of the Iceve language (ISO 639-3 language code: bec). The description is technical, and includes the rationale for each underlying decision. As such, it is most useful to those who need to understand those decisions, for example, some literacy teachers, people who are involved in making further decisions about the Iceve orthography, and (possibly external) linguistic advisors. It is not intended primarily as a guide for typical Iceve readers and writers. For that audience, a transfer manual is available to help Iceve speakers who are literate in English begin to use this orthography (Odacho et al 2023). It is also hoped that a less technical, more illustrative reading and writing book will be produced.
