Different perspectives on Bible translation are rooted in different deep-seated convictions related to the nature and purpose of the Bible and of Bible translation. Working from a set of eight basic questions about the Bible and translation, this paper offers an overview of how God communicates throughout Scripture, what the purpose(s) of his communication are, and the purpose of Bible translation in the midst of that. The paper presents a chart contrasting the varying perspectives of Bible translation. The goal of the paper is to foster respectful dialogue regarding Bible translation that leads to unity among believers.
