Description:
Few in the evangelical Christian world see addressing identity poverty and aspirational poverty as missional enterprises. Yet God’s mission mediated through language provides the opportunity to bless the nations. Alleviating social poverty should be seen as an end in itself; we should view ourselves as instruments in God’s mission to bless the nations. Rather than a deficit, poverty represents opportunity for growth, development, and blessing. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free” (Luke 4:18).
