SIL Cameroon Academic Library

Important Update 5 March 2021

Please be informed that the SIL Academic Library is open again to the public. You are welcome to visit every weekday during the normal operating hours. Please remember to wear your mask and wash your hands with soap when you arrive.

Purpose

Welcome to the SIL-Cameroon Academic Library. This is the gateway to Linguistic Research, Translation and Literacy in National Languages. We provide access to the latest ideas in these areas of knowledge through information resources and high quality services for SIL Staff, university students and the general public. Our library is situated in three different locations, the mother collection in Yaounde, the Bamenda Regional Office (BRO) collection in Bamenda, and the Greater North Regional Office (GNRO) collection in Maroua.

By providing access to these resources, we contribute in the mission of seeing God’s Word become accessible to all people in the language that speaks to their heart.

Membership

Our library is open to everyone interested in research and in the acquisition of knowledge in areas of SIL's specialisation. We give opportunity to everybody to be able to visit our library and take advantage of the resources it has to offer. If you simply want to read books, our library has something for you.

To have access to the library you need a library card. To obtain one you must register with a sum of 3,000 CFA per annum. A passport sized photo of yourself is also required. This card is to be presented at the circulation desk when you enter the library.

Borrowing Privileges

For non-SIL staff, you must deposit a refundable caution fee of 10,000 CFA before you can borrow a book. You must also provide us with a detailed address, including phone number. There is no limit to the number of items that may be borrowed at any one time.  However, 2,000 CFA will be deducted from this fee for each two week period after a book becomes overdue. Users with more than three overdue items will not be allowed to borrow more books.

People who borrow books will have a period of 14 days to return them. However, remembering that many other people also use the library resources, we ask you to return items as soon as possible.

Research Tools

We have an electronic library catalogue at: koha.yaounde.ddns.info. Users have the privilege of sitting at a research computer and exploring what we have in our collection. We give our users the liberty to use this tool themselves. However, a library-qualified staff member is ready to come to your assistance if needed.

Opening Hours

Our library opens to the public from 10:30am – 3pm every working day of the week, Tuesday through Friday.
